There are almost 200 institutions of business support in the region such as Regional Development Agencies, Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade as well as Business Support Centre, consulting companies, business information centers and business associations. Basic aim of their activity is to support entrepreneurship and helping small land medium size enterprises to by more competitive and support their development. The institutions most often offer:

• consulting services, also in terms of applying New Technologies into e.g. production processes, implementation of New ways of quality management, obtaining certificates and applying for national and European funds for the development of a company,
• training services,
• basic and specialised consulting services,
• financial services i.e. granting loans, sureties,
• assistance in establishing new business contacts through organising trade and economic missions, business meetings etc.

The most important regional institutions are Regional Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Craftsmen and Chamber of Small land Medium Entrepreneurship in Katowice, Silesian Camber of Agriculture, Uppersilesian Agency of Regional Development, which is regional financing institution , Silesian Agency for Enterprise Restructuring Co. and Uppersilesian Fund. Moreover, loan, surety funds and venture capital are available in the region. The most popular is Regional Surety Fund and loan funds established by Uppersilesian Agency of Regional Development and Silesian Agency for Enterprise Restructuring Co. In addition there are entrepreneurship incubators and industrial and technology parks in the region.

Regional Information and Technology Transfer Centre supports innovative activities in the region.

Financial services in the region are very well developed, there are 4 bank head offices, 26 commercial banks with 600 branches and agencies as well as 117 co-operative banks.

The region is on the second place in Poland in terms of number of trade fairs that is taking place here. The most important are Katowice International Trade Fairs and trade fairs organized in the biggest exhibition hall called „Spodek”.
